If the vehicle is still under warranty, definitely take it to the dealer.  If it's not, and you have the means to fix it yourself, then of course do so.  However, if you're not certain of what's wrong with it, or if you don't have the right tools, it might save time to simply take it to a repair shop to be fixed.

PROBABLY LOW ON FREON. GO BUY SOME AND FILL IT YOURSELF.

Depends on your level of expertise.  Do you feel comfortable with recharging the freon and finding the reason why it is low?  If so, get the dye and the light and goggles you will need to find the leak.  If not, let a mechanic versed in A/C (not necessarily a dealer) do it.

Freon can be added at most any garage, probable for a lot less about 65 to 85 dollars.

I would never return any car to the dealer for repair unless it is under full warranty. And honestly i would never try to fix it myself. First and foremost, try to call around and see who has cheap prices. The yellow pages is a good place to start. And, especially if you are female, you may get a high price, but no price is set in stone. Just use your gift of gab and when you talk to people over the phone let them know that you have found someone cheaprer (even if you havnt) for the business, ppl will generally lower their prices.
